Questions

What is a pivot table?

A summary that groups rows by one column (and optionally another across the top) and totals, counts or averages a value for each group.

How are numbers detected?

Currency symbols, thousands separators and percent signs are ignored, so "$1,200" counts as 1200. Cells that are not numbers are skipped for sum, average, min and max.
