The reader uses a font with heavier letter bottoms, which helps some readers keep letters the right way up. Adjust the spacing, choose a soft background and turn on line focus to keep your place. Press play to hear the text read aloud while each word is highlighted.

Is OpenDyslexic loaded from the internet?

No. The font files are bundled with ToolWand and served with the page, like the rest of the site. Your text and PDFs never leave your device.

What is line focus?

It dims everything except a band of lines around your pointer, so it is easier to keep your place. Move the mouse or use the ↑ and ↓ keys while the reader is focused.

Which voices are used?

The on-device voices built into your operating system. Online voices are hidden so your text is not sent to a speech service.

Does a special font help everyone?

Not always — research is mixed. Spacing, line length and background colour often matter as much, so try the settings that suit you.
